Funeral expenses for baby Matthew

Matthew son to Yamilet Machuca & Agustín Hernández was born on December 13, 2022, at 37 weeks due to pregnancy complications detected two weeks prior to birth. Everything was going well during the pregnancy until the 35 week checkup they informed Mom and Dad of some abnormalities during the ultrasound and would need Mom to be admitted to the hospital for a procedure to extract the extra fluid buildup. Shortly after the procedure the doctor noticed more fluid buildup and requested more testing to detect the cause of extra fluid. The results of those tests came back inconclusive. The pregnancy was escalated to high-risk and for both Mom and baby safety they had no choice but to induce and deliver baby Matthew.

Baby Matthew was transferred to Inova Fairfax - NICU where he was expected to stay a few days and sent home. Unfortunately, that stay became longer once he was diagnosed with cardiac and a rare medical condition Lymphatic Malformations (Lymphangioma) this condition produces fluid-filled bump under the skin caused by overgrown lymph vessels. Lymph vessels are responsible for moving lymphatic fluid and white blood cells through your tissues and bloodstream. They started a treatment to drain the fluid in his head, legs, and arms. After a few weeks of treatment Matthew made little progress and recommended to be transferred out of state for more intensive care. He was transferred to Children's Hospital – DC the medical team started a new treatment with a 50% chance of improvement. Matthew started to improve his swelling went down he even started to interact with Mom and Dad stay alert and even share smiles and giggle for a few days. Even though they had a long road of head Mom and Dad had hopes their baby would make a full recovery.

Months after the initial treatment doctors noticed a regression in his health, they called a meeting with his parents and medical team. They inform the parents he needed open heart surgery, but his chances of survival were none. His body had started to fill up with fluid around his lungs, legs, arms, abdomen, brain and now his heart. They offer to transfer him out of state to Children’s Hospital – PA but due to his status he would not make it during transport. The only thing they could do was repeat treatment a few days, but he showed no signs of improvement on June 6, 2023, Matthew developed a high-grade fever and on a ventilator the hospital has inform his parents all treatment option have been exhausted and there is nothing that can be done, his health will continue to deteriorate and another fever could be fatal.

Baby Matthew is currently with Mom and Dad at his crib side praying for a miracle. As you can read this journey has been difficult and has also impacted their finances seeking every option to keep him alive.

Matthew hijo de Yamilet Machuca y Agustín Hernández nació el 13 de diciembre de 2022, a las 37 semanas debido a complicaciones del embarazo detectadas dos semanas antes de su nacimiento. Todo iba bien durante el embarazo hasta que en el chequeo de la semana 35 les informaron a sus padres sobre algunas anormalidades durante el ultrasonido y necesitaban que mamá fuera ingresara al hospital para un procedimiento para extraer la acumulación de líquido atómico excesivo. Poco después del procedimiento, el médico notó una mayor acumulación de líquido y solicitó más pruebas para detectar la causa del exceso de líquido. Los resultados de esas pruebas no fueron concluyentes. El embarazo pasó a ser de alto riesgo y tanto por la seguridad de la mamá como del bebé, no tuvieron más remedio que inducir y dar a luz al bebé.

Matthew fue transferido a Inova Fairfax - NICU, donde se esperaba que permaneciera unos días y fuera enviado a casa. Desafortunadamente, esa estadía se hizo más larga una vez que le diagnosticaron malformaciones linfáticas (linfangioma) una condición no común. Esta condición produce líquido debajo de la piel causada por vasos linfáticos. Los vasos linfáticos son responsables de mover el líquido linfático y los glóbulos blancos a través de los tejidos y el torrente sanguíneo. Comenzaron un tratamiento para drenar el líquido en su cabeza, piernas y brazos. Después de algunas semanas de tratamiento, Matthew progresó muy poco y recomendó que lo trasladaran fuera del estado para recibir cuidados más intensivos. El fue trasladado al Children's Hospital – DC el equipo médico inició un nuevo tratamiento con un 50% de probabilidad de mejoría no garantizada. Pero Matthew comenzó a mejorar, su hinchazón bajó, incluso comenzó a interactuar con sus padres se mantenía alertó y compartió sonrisas y momentos de alegría por varios días. A pesar de que tenían un largo camino con atenciones médica, sus padres sostenían la fe y esperanza de que su bebé se recuperara por completo.

 

Meses después del tratamiento inicial, los médicos notaron una regresión en su salud, convocaron a una reunión con sus padres y el equipo médico. Informan a los padres que Matthew necesitaba una cirugía a corazón abierto pero que sus posibilidades de resistir la operación eran pocas. Su cuerpo había comenzado a llenarse de líquido alrededor de sus pulmones, piernas, brazos, abdomen, cerebro y ahora su corazón. Le ofrecen trasladarlo fuera del estado al Children’s Hospital – PA pero debido a su estado actual tampoco resistiría el traslado por carretera. La única opción que dieron los doctores era repetir el tratamiento unos días, pero Matthew no mostró signos de mejoría. El 6 de junio de 2023, Matthew desarrolló fiebre alta y conectado a un respirador artificial el hospital les aviso que todas las opciones de tratamiento se habían agotado y no hay nada que se pueda hacer, su salud seguirá deteriorándose y otra fiebre podría ser fatal.

 

Matthew está actualmente con sus padres al lado de su cuna orando por un milagro. Como puede leer, este proceso ha sido difícil y también ha afectado sus finanzas buscando todas las opciones para mantenerlo con vida.
