Fund Our March on Washington & College Visit to Howard University
Shorecrest’s Black Student Union and Northside Drill Team are joining the March on Washington at the end of August and we want to be there! I hope you can help us cover the cost of my airfare and our lodging. My daughter, Nataisia, and I will be inspired to join the thousands who will be there and we want to do this together. Nataisia graduates in 2021 and would be the first of our family to go to college, that’s why we’re visiting Howard University when we visit. I’m excited for her future and this trip will be so empowering as she feels the solidarity of people around her and as she sees the vision of being a young black woman in college.
More about the march….the March on Washington was previously called The Great March for the Civil and Economic Rights of African Americans. Martin Luther King gave his historical “I Have a Dream” speech at this same event in 1963 and on August 28th 2020 Rev. Al Sharpton’ll lead it. With the strength of the Black Lives Matter movement today, it will be an inspiring event.
More about Nataisia…. she has worked hard to be a voice for young people and sees how they suffer from systemic racism occurring in their lives and around the world! We have been marching and joining our voices to the BLM movement every week, often several times a week. It’s given her strength and clarifying her identity as a young black woman. Nataisia is curious about Howard University as an important way to stay connected to an affirming community.
More about our ask… at this time in America, we need to do this together – for safety and for the experience. We need funds for airfare, lodging, and transportation, etc. We expect to be in D.C. for a full week and we estimate the cost will be $3,000
Thank you for helping make this happen!
