HELP FOR A YOUNG GIRL WHO IS PARALYZED
Donation protected
10 years ago at the age of 8 - Little Rafailia Kiriklaki was playing on a trampoline in Crete. She endured a playground accident that would leave her as a quadriplegic devastating her family. Following this accident she spent months in a hospital in Greece without a hope not only for recovering but also for life.
With the help of AHEPA the Shriners hospital in Montreal was contacted and her case reviewed. The file was subsequently sent to the Shriners in Philadelphia where she was offered free medical attention to see what could be done to restore some movement in order to correct her situation. The stress of what happened to her resulted in her parents breaking up and her father leaving. Now with only a single mother of limited means the family managed to raise some funds through some very generous philanthropists in order to get her to Philadelphia in 2014 at the age of 11.
She underwent several surgeries since then but is still a long way from having semblance of a normal life. In the meantime with the help of her family she has managed to focus on her studies and has become an exceptional student. The Shriners Hospital however has not given up on her. She has been invited once again to continue the next phase of her treatment involving further surgeries so that she can obtain some movement in her arm and render it usable. Although she has regained slight movement in her legs, currently she is still in a wheelchair. She has to be fed and helped to dress and with bathroom duties etc… Needless to say having some mobility in her arm would greatly help her.
With the next phase of surgeries and treatments, the hope is that she will start to become a little more independent and possibly attend university in Athens where she was recently accepted. However without our help she will not be able to get the much needed surgeries.
This beautiful little girl with a beautiful mind needs our help to get her to the hospital.
We need help for air fare and lodging and would like to reach out to anyone out there willing to make a donation to help bring Rafailia to the Shriners in Philadelphia.
The goal is to pay for airfare for trips over the next several months as well as some basic housing while in Philadelphia for post op treatments and therapy. Any help anyone can offer with either airline points or funds, anything would go a long way.
