We ❤️ Ms. Green

I have known Savitria “Beechie” Green since 2013 when we were both 5th grade teachers at North Beach Elementary. It was my first year teaching at the school, and I was fortunate to have Beechie as an unofficial mentor. Her leadership of our grade level and knack for handling administrative matters, whether pertaining to us as teachers or to the school at large, helped me to understand just how much others came to depend on her. She was forever going above and beyond the call of duty. She later became my son’s 5th grade teacher, and her dedication to his education and well-being led me to discover another of her incredible gifts; she was a true inspiration to her students.

In 2015, Beechie left the classroom to become the school’s IB Coordinator, and I left to assume the role of the school’s Reading Leader. For four years, in the small office that we shared, Beechie and I collaborated on many school-related assignments that we were tasked with, planned elaborate, overnight field trips, and bounced ideas off of one another specific to our respective responsibilities. In the course of a day, dozens of teachers, administrators, staff members, former parents, and friends would come by the office to seek Beechie’s advice and/or support on matters related to both their professional and personal lives. I would marvel at the ease with which she built and cultivated relationships. I used to joke that she had a way of connecting with people that involved some form of magic, when in fact, she was simply a good listener, a loyal friend and co-worker, and ultimately, a moral compass.

In no uncertain terms, Beechie Green was an asset to North Beach Elementary for the almost 30 years she worked there. She helped create the kind of culture that drew families throughout Miami Beach and its surroundings to the school.
