I know most of you have been following along with my updates on Miles. Thank you so much for praying for healing for Miles & also for his family. I have known his parents for several years! Fun fact… I think I knew each of them before they knew each other. They are both amazing people, but together, especially as parents, they are ROCK STARS! Miles’ mom is a hairdresser and salon owner, and as we know, when self-employed people don't work, they do not get paid. These two will support any fundraising that is going on, and this is why I really want to show them love! There are so many of us that want to help but we don’t know how except pray.
For the past few weeks, as I have been praying for them, my heart has been so heavy to try to help financially. It’s crazy because I always feel nudging from the Lord, and sometimes I wonder if it’s my own mind or Him… when that nudge won’t go away, I KNOW IT’S THE LORD!
If you can donate, please do. No amount is too small!! Please continue to pray, and I will continue to update you on Miles!
Update as of 5.3.25 from Miles’ dad!
Day 18: We're still in the PICU at AMC. The surgery revealed an infection of e coli in Miles' bone, the spinal fusion hardware and his skin. The infectious Disease team should be able to identify a targeted antibiotic approach by tomorrow. Cultures need to incubate for 48 hours and we're not quite there yet. The good news is we've identified a target. This team has experience and they're confident. We'll go back into surgery Monday and irrigate down to the bone and hardware again and hopefully close the surgical site. Miles is comfortable. We've found a balance between semi- sedation and acute pain management. Comfort and dignity are our goals for the next day or so.
We feel your love. We haven't been responding to many texts. As Jolene said to me today. "We're not alright. But we'll be ok."
Thank you all.
Day 19: Cultures have identified Strep in addition to the e coli. Miles remains comfortable with the help of Morphine, Oxy and Valium. We've stopped asking when we can go home.
When Miles was born Jolene and I knew he was going to need more love than 2 ppl could offer. We shared him with you because we knew one day he would need the love of all of us.
Now that the day has come, we are inspired by the amount of love you all have shown to us. We don't know what the days ahead hold. We'll face them with courage and hope. More importantly, we'll face them together.
