We Love You Cass

Hi cu women’s club soccer as many of you have probably heard Cassie Feely, a senior defender on the Gold team,  had a tragic accident yesterday. Giving everything she had, she broke her leg in a tackle to save a goal in Golds game last night. The game was delayed 30 minutes as paramedics arrived to sedate her on the field in order to get her into the ambulance. It was a clean compound break of her fibula and tibia. As always, she was a trooper - making jokes with the paramedics and keeping the scariest situation as light hearted as possible. She was then brought to the hospital, the coaches and captains have been taking shifts all night to be with her and keep her company. She went into surgery at 6am this morning, thankfully surgery went the best way it possibly could and was as successful as we had hoped. She will be in the hospital for the next few days as doctors try to keep her as comfortable as possible. Her parents booked their flights last night and will be landing at noon today.

Some of the first things Cassie said on the field waiting for the paramedics to arrive was “I broke my leg for this team, now let’s win a national championship,” but then her second thought was about how serious the injury was and “how am I going to afford this”. How heartbreaking is this, to have one of your initial worries be “will I be able to afford this?” we are not sure how much insurance can cover. Cassie works full time to pay for almost everything on her own, she is one of the hardest working people I know. This will be a very long road ahead, as she will be paying for the ambulance, the surgery, staying in the hospital for a few days, gas to drive back to Colorado (she can’t fly because it could possibly cause blood clots in her leg post surgery), physical therapy, and medications. It is very hard to work a full time job, go to school full time, and recover from a broken leg. The Gold team has set up a “Go Fund Me” to donate to support Cassie. Our goal is to raise $3,000 to cover some of the costs. Any donations big or small will be so appreciated. In this season of giving and thankfulness, our team and the Feely family would be so beyond thankful if our CU soccer family, friends, fans, supporters, anyone and everyone, came together to donate and support Cassie. Please share this on social media, with your families and friends, and anyone who might be willing to help. We are so thankful for each and everyone of you, Cassie takes so much pride in this club and these girls, please please please consider donating and keeping Cassie is your thoughts and prayers.
