We Love the Janssons

Where to begin with the Janssons. If you live on Long Island and are a Christian, you have either been directly impacted by this family's incredible ministry or you know someone who has. This is the kind of family that stands shoulder to shoulder with ANYONE in need, in fact they actively look for those in need to help, and now we are rallying around them to return the love they have shown us for years and years.

As I'm sure you know, Doug has been battling COVID and COVID related illnesses for almost a month now, truly fighting for his life. We have the unique opportunity to sow into this beautiful family of 5, support them financially through this unimaginably difficult time, and help them prepare to pay the coming hospital bills.

It is with great joy we come alongside the Janssons to support Doug, Kelly, Cade, Bryn, and Landan and continue to contend in prayer for Doug's COMPLETE healing and return home to his wonderful family!

Doug’s treatment and healing journey so far:

Living Word Church LI’s Pastor, Doug Jansson, was brought to the hospital by ambulance on December 12th due to breathing difficulties from COVID pneumonia.

Doug has been receiving great care at Stony Brook University hospital. We are so thankful for the medical staff and how they have helped Kelly and the kids be able to call Doug and Facetime into the room. Once being admitted into the hospital, Doug was been started on Remdesivir, as well as a few other treatments, to improve his O2 levels

A few days into being at the hospital, Doug was transferred to the ICU and required 100% oxygen assistance with a cannula mask. Every day in the hospital has been a rollercoaster, steps forward and steps back. We are crying out and praying for full healing of his body and his lungs.

On December 23rd, they started blood plasma treatments. The morning of December 24th, Doug was placed on a ventilator. Doug’s lungs are so damaged that shortly after being placed on the vent, part of his lung popped. ICU doctors moved quickly to put a tube into his chest to relieve the pressure this caused. His oxygen levels weren’t coming up to where they needed to be. Kelly got a call from one of the doctors that it was touch and go. The ICU team brought in a cardiothoracic surgeon. She is an incredibly kind and brilliant surgeon.  She called with a plan to try to save Doug’s life. Doug was brought into the OR and placed on ECMO life support.

On December 29th, Doug was taken off of life support but still on the ventilator and has significant damage to his lungs that need to heal.

From December 30th- January 1st, Doug has had many ups and downs over.He has come through some life threatening complications, like a massive internal bleed.

As 2021 started, the doctors were talking about weaning him off the vent, but Doug hit some more complications today- including an infection in his bloodstream and having to go higher on the vent settings.

Kelly shared on January 1st, “Although Doug is still sedated, at times he is very responsive. The kids and I have been able to FaceTime him. We pray for him, encourage him, read the word of God to him and tell him all the things we are going to do together when he gets home. Yesterday, Cade played the guitar and led us all in worship. It was one of the most beautiful and heart wrenching times of worship that I have ever experienced. Doug was nodding his head and in true Doug fashion- gave us a few thumbs up. In both humility and tenacity of faith, we continue to cry out of a mighty miracle. He is still facing some mountains, but we know the One who moves them.”

Doug’s time at Stony Brook University Hospital has been a rollercoaster filled with constant ups and downs. We are praying for a miracle and that his body will be fully restored. We are praying for peace and comfort that exceeds all understanding for his family. It has been incredible to see how even in his sickest, Doug continues to be a bright shining light. This family continues to share parts of this difficult journey with us and in the darkest hours, encourage all of us with scripture. We are leaning into God’s faithfulness, comfort and hope during this time and rallying together to help this amazing family. Exodus 17: 2 says, “ When Moses' hands grew tired, they took a stone and put it under him and he sat on it. Aaron and Hur held his hands up--one on one side, one on the other--so that his hands remained steady till sunset.” We are coming together and helping hold this family’s arms up as they face these trials, as they have done the same for so many of us throughout the years.

***We will continue to share the updates below!***

A little more about the Jansson Family.

Doug Jansson has been the Lead Pastor of Living Word since 2014, and been on staff since 2001. He is passionate about preaching, vision casting and developing leaders.  He loves Ciro's Pizza, Dr. Pepper and the Met’s! Doug and his wife, Kelly, have three children: Cade, Bryn and Landan. Kelly Jansson is Women’s Ministry Director as Living Word and she does an amazing job leading and preaching at our women’s ministry, Deeper. Kelly also counsels women and leads women's prayer meetings and events. Doug and Kelly are truly a power couple that lead and love well, and have changed so many of our lives. We all love them and their children so much. They are examples of what it means to suffer well, uplift the outsiders, and have fun! They sacrifice so much to make a difference in the community and it is an honor to know them.
