Hi family, friends, and loved ones-
On Saturday, October 9, 2021 around 3PM, my brother-in-law, Stephen Patten suffered a major cardiac event… a LAD Heart Attack AKA “the widow maker” or 100% blockage. By the grace of God he survived. After a touch and go 24 hours, Duke University Hospital said they would accept them into their cardiac unit. He was transferred and survived the transfer.
For the past week he has been at Duke and has made positive baby steps. The mentality at Duke has been stabilization, rehabilitation, and eventually Stephen going home. The weaned him off sedation to do neuro checks a couple of times. He could squeeze Leigh’s hand, knew she was his wife, knew he has two beautiful boys, and could answer basic yes or no questions. This was HUGE and incredibly positive! He has gone through 5 surgeries to repair the blockage, clear a clot, stop bleeding, and place a balloon. On Friday- Saturday, October 15-16, 2021 we received some bad news that he was septic and had pneumonia. He was also placed on dialysis.
On Sunday, October 17, 2021 the doctors informed Leigh that his lungs are now the main culprit of his deteriorating condition. He has many cracked ribs from CPR and now the pneumonia. The doctors delivered the devastating news that he will probably not make it past the next day or so. Leigh made the almost impossible decision to sign the DNR. He is currently being given the antibiotic “Levaquin” and if he doesn’t start showing signs of improvement in the next 12 hours or so, they will will shutting down life support.
We ask for your continued prayers, positive thoughts, vibes, and energy for Stephen, his wife Leigh, and his two sons: Ben and Nathan! We are hoping for a miracle. We have been blessed with a few so far and we are hoping for one more!
With that being said, this beautiful family is going to have a long road to recovery and a lot of bills. To ease this process during this incredibly difficult time, having some help to pay for some of the expenses weather it is hospital, hotel, gas , food, funeral (hopefully this is NOT the case), or whatever else. If you can help out this incredibly amazing and beautiful family during the most difficult time in their life, it would be incredible! any little bit helps! Or if you could share!
I will keep you all updated. Please keep praying!
Thank you all in advance from the bottom of my and my families heart!
With our Love,
Ashley, The Peterson & Patten Family
