Help Petra with the costs of Matt's passing

Matt's sudden and unexpected passing has also come with sudden and unexpected costs for his life partner, Petra. Petra has been unable to work for the last several months as she has been recovering from surgery. Now, she will take on all of their shared living expenses, and the additional costs of settling Matt's affairs. In the coming months, there will be the costs of holding not one, but two events to celebrate Matt's rich and full life in his respective homes -- one in British Columbia, and one in Nova Scotia -- which will involve cross-continental travel for Petra and for Matt's family. We know Matt would not want geographical distance to be a barrier to them finding comfort together in this difficult time. None of this is affordable, creating immense financial strain for Petra during an already shocking and deeply painful loss.

If you knew Matt for any length time, you know that he was a caretaker, a fixer, and a teacher in each of his communities. He derived genuine joy from performing acts of service for others. This is a time when anyone who was ever on the receiving end of these acts of service can truly honour and reciprocate Matt's generosity by easing the hardship of those he loved most in their time of need. Donating any amount of money to ensure Petra has the resources she needs-- to ensure that she does not have to worry about money or incur debt-- is a powerful act of care in this circumstance, both for Petra and in Matt's memory.
