Hello, my name is Sandy, and I am Paola's sister. I decided to start a GoFundMe for her. Paola is currently battling ALS. She was diagnosed on June 5, 2023, and has rapidly progressed which gave no time for any of us to prepare both mentally and financially. Watching her lose the ability to move or speak has been unimaginably painful. She now relies on a tracheostomy to breathe and a feeding tube for nourishment. Regardless, I still see the love in her eyes and feel her spirit, even in silence. Unfortunately, ALS tests the strength of everyone around. We have tried to stay strong but it has taken a huge toll on us mentally and financially. ALS is terminal. I never imagined myself having to set up a GoFundMe like this and it’s one of the hardest things I've had to do, I'm doing it out of love and desperation. The financial burden for caring for someone with ALS is enormous, as her sister I want to make sure that we give her the dignity, comfort, and peace she deserves-now and when the time comes for her to rest.
