Our Jefe has been on a journey for quite some time now, but we are happy to report he has officially been listed for a Heart transplant with UNOS (United Network for Organ Sharing)!!!!! As many of you know, Jeff has been experiencing heart failure for the past 5 years, and it all came to a head this past April. During that time, his heart team here in Lancaster moved him for additional care at Penn Hospital in Philadelphia, where it was determined he is in need of a new heart. At that time, Jeff was preparing to live at the hospital until a heart was available, but he is a fighter. Much to the doctors' surprise, Jeff rallied (as he does) and was able to go home on daily IV medications and weekly doctor appointments. Now he plays the waiting game as he continues to fight daily while patiently (Jefe's most used word) waiting for his gift of a heart. This go-fund-me is meant as an anticipatory fund. We know Jeff will need a heart transplant, we know Rene will need to take time from work, we know there will be overnights in Philadelphia, parking tickets, meals, deductibles, etc. and the list goes on (we don't know what we don't know yet). Any funds raised that are not used will be donated directly to the medical community of Jeff and Rene's choosing (Heart Association, Penn Medicine, etc.). Many friends and family have been reaching out wondering how they can support Jeff and Rene directly so we set this up! The Lamp, Lebo and Schaeffer families thank you all for the amazing support we have received as a family and encourage you to continue to pray/keep Jeff and Rene in your thoughts as the mountain will only get higher before Jeff can enjoy the ride down the other side!
