In mid March Joe went to the doctor for a severely swollen eye and blurry vision. Doctors found a mass behind his right eye. He was referred to OHSU where he was diagnosed with Diffuse Large B Cell Lymphoma. The cancer is extremely aggressive and has spread to other areas of his body. The vision in his right eye has been severely impacted and they are not sure the damage can be reversed. The doctors have developed a chemotherapy regime to fight the disease but it will take at least 6 months to complete. His chemo cycles include 5 consecutive days of treatment to be completed in the hospital. He will then return home for 2 weeks and then back to the hospital for 5 days. This will repeat for 6 cycles. He has been unable to work for the past four weeks and has used up all of his paid leave. The doctors do not expect he will be able to work much, if at all, while he receives and recovers from each chemotherapy treatment. Joe has worked at Parkrose Hardware for over 25 years. If you have ever shopped there, you surely have seen his smiling face there to help you with whatever you need. His diagnosis has been shocking for Joe and his family. As they try to cope with this news, they are also faced with the harsh reality that they have NO income coming in to maintain their monthly expenses. The last thing Joe and his family should have to worry about are finances. We want him to focus on beating Cancer and getting well! Help us fight with Joe as he battles this awful disease.
