Hello, my name is Sarah Carpenter, and I am fundraising for my family. My amazing husband of 19 years, Joe Carpenter, has had three heart attacks in less than two years.

In March of 2021, just after Joe's 47th birthday, he had his first heart attack. We were terrified and shocked and confused. He worked hard, he ate well, and exercised often. Our family loves to go hiking and camping and he loves building bikes to take out on the many Duluth trails.

His doctors determined he needed open heart surgery and performed a triple bypass. He made it through the ICU and a week in the cardiac unit, then was sent home to recover. They said it wouldn't be long before he started feeling better, but five days later one of his newly grafted arteries failed, and he had a second heart attack. Luckily, the doctors were able to put in a couple of stents, and he was discharged to three months of cardiac rehab.

Then nearly two years later, last Monday, Joe went to the ER as he knew he didn't feel right, and was diagnosed with his third heart attack. We are managing the coronary artery disease with many medications and more cardiac rehab.
