We Have Love, But Need a Home

Hello, My name is Patti and I am fundraising for my niece, Nikki and her family. In her words, this is her story: My name is Nikki and I am the mother of 5 wonderful children, ages 3-16. Everyone faces challenges in life, including me, but I never imagined that my children would ever be hungry and homeless.

Although I was once happily married (my husband of 20 years is a disabled veteran who suffers from PTSD), I am now facing the challenge of taking care of my family alone. About 2 years ago, after my own health crisis of kidney removal, I noticed a change in him - he was angry, aggressive and seemed like a stranger. He quit his job, took our money and hid it in an account I didn't know about. Nine months ago, he abandoned us on Easter Sunday - no goodbyes to my children. My life has changed dramatically since then. The bank took our home and re-possessed our car, we were eventually evicted and we have been struggling for months. We are currently staying in one room at a motel, using my father's Social Security to survive day to day.

Fortunately, wonderful family members have been able to help as well, but after many months of trying we realize we need help if we are going to be able to find a home. The funds would be used to pay for a security deposit for an apartment. I have already been able to obtain vouchers for housing but cannot come up with money for the deposit. If you could help us get back on our feet and become a stable family once again we would be deeply appreciative. I would one day pay it forward to another mother in need.
