To say this has all come on so suddenly is an understatement, so I’ll do my best to fill you in on what we know so far. On September 15th Christina was diagnosed with “Breast Cancer.” Stage Two Invasive Ductal Carcinoma. So far Christina has undergone lots of blood tests and multiple body and bone scans with in the last couple weeks so doctors could gain further information on her treatment plan. What we know so far is that Tinas cancer is HER2-positive. These cancers tend to grow and spread faster than other breast cancers. Which means Christina will have surgery to have a port placed today and will be starting Chemotherapy on October 7th. Tina will be treated with not only aggressive Chemotherapy, but she has already met with a surgeon regarding a double Mastectomy, and an oncologist about the Chemotherapy and Radiation that will also be needed to treat her Cancer.
From Florida, to Hawaii, to Utah, and then to Maryland, and D.C. our beautiful and outgoing Tina has touched the lives of so many people she has come in contact with. She makes friends with everyone she knows and always puts others ahead of herself. Above all else she is one of the most hardworking, patient, and loving, mothers, with three of the most beautiful children and such an incredible husband. Christina and her husband are both Navy Veterans and continue to work currently for our government in D.C. I still can’t wrap my head around how something could happen to someone so incredible. For as long as I have known this family they have never been ones to ask for help. Always those that put the needs of others above themselves, but I know they could use it more than ever now.
Tina and Shandon both work full time and with everything coming on so quickly there isn’t a lot of time to plan or prepare for something like this. Tina will not be able to work for some days during chemo, and potentially several months for the series of surgery and reconstructive surgeries that will be done. Double mastectomy, then radiation, afterwards skin grafts, series of expansion, implants, nipple reconstruction, etc.
Shandon will be having to take multiple days off to support Tina and take care of his family. They are going to need a lot of help, support, and prayers over the next long while. With treatments and surgery in the near future any help you can give I know would be greatly appreciated.
You can also Venmo her and her family Directly @ WE FIGHT FOR TINA Breast Cancer Treatment Fund @Christina-Ann-Torres. (The goal listed is the calculated amount for medical bills, child care, the ability to cover travel, making life easier with takeout or cleaning help, and Christina’s Salary over the next several months)
Thank You in advance for your love, support, and prayers.
