You have left my life but you will never leave my heart
Stitch had always accepted any new life style I had at the moment. In my early 20's we had lost love, friends, money, and we managed to stay together. He watched my life crumble beneath me while I worked two jobs, moved from home to home, sat on milk crates, drank, cried, and made careless choices. He had those little judgement free brown eyes and happy wagging tail. Stitch never left my side.
Stitch watched me in my mid 20's getting a better handle of my life. We had made new friends and kept some old. We finally bought a couch that he loved to sit and sleep on. Stitch saw me fall back in love and welcomed him with his squishy face and wet kisses. He helped me cope, heal, and gain my strength back. We were starting a new life, together. Stitch never left my side.
Stitch was very surprised in my late 20's/early 30's that even more people entered our lives. We were thriving! I had gotten married, popped two children out, things weren't always rosy, but peaceful. Stitch was moving at a slower pace and lost his hearing but his joy never left. He loved being the vacuum cleaner underneath the dinner table. He tolerated both children riding him like a pony. He accepted the fact life got busy with the three extra people in our lives. Stitch never left my side.
Stitch had a tumor in his ear that began to drain which caused infection. The tumor was so massive it ruptured his ear drum causing the loss of hearing. He went into surgery to have the tumor removed and clear out the infection. Unfortunately, there was a complication in the surgery with substantial amount of bleeding and was rushed to VRA (24 Hour Emergency for Pets; btw, they were amazing!). Stitch developed a lot of swelling and possible blood clot in the back of his throat which began to close his air way. He had a second surgery on the same day for a tracheostomy, and was hospitalized with great care for five days. When I visited him the first night he was in high spirits. I did not visit him for the next four nights as he would grow very anxious when I had left and I did not want to disrupt any of his healing. I called everyday... sometimes two to three times a day to get a status on him. His swelling decreased but his breathing was still concerning. I brought Stitch home and he got to spend a few hours with us. He went to his favorite spots in the house, ate very little of his favorite meal (rotisserie chicken), and slept. Stitch ended up with further bleeding from his ear and problematic breathing. I returned to VRA to medical board him, thinking, and hoping just one more night with medical care he would be home the next day.
Stitch was a fighter. He fought all the way until he didn't have any strength in him. We knew it was time. I got to spend his last moments with him and expressed everything he had meant to me but he knew...Stitch never left my side.
When Stitch took his last hard breath, I never left his side.
Stitch wasn't just a dog, he was part of the family.. he helped me carry on when there was nobody. He brought me back to life. Stitch never left my side.
All donations will go towards medical expenses for Stitch's last moments with us. Our family is grateful for your donation.
Thank you.
