My name is Jodi and as much as I hate asking for help I need help. My daughter Tia started having seizures approximately 2 years ago and it's impacted her life huge. Up until recently all of her seizures had been in her sleep. She has grand mal seizures where she stops breathing and we need to get safety devices to keep her safe throughout the night and ensure that someone is notified that she's actively seizing. She can't be alone. Her seizures activity has increased in not only frequency of seizures but also in duration and intensity. So far none of the meds have been effective. We've had many neurologist appointments, ambulance trips, emergency room visits, ct scans, eeg scans, blood draws, mri's and still no answers on what's causing the seizures. There was an abnormality noted over the occipital region of her brain in the eeg and mri but we're waiting on getting a mri in Edmonton (its stronger than the mri in Red Deer) to see if that's causing her seizures. We've been trying to figure out if there's triggers but if you know anything about epilepsy there's a million triggers. Good Friday this year wasn't so good for Tia because she went from 1 seizure per time to having multiple seizures. Good Friday was 4 seizures and as a parent watching your child convulse and stop breathing is terrifying. Yesterday she again had more than 1 seizure. Along with the financial strain of driving to the city for appointments, ambulance bills piling up, medication costs, Tia has had to give up her job as cognitively she's starting to have issues remembering as well as constant brain fog and absence seizures throughout the day. She's got no money coming in. We asked the family doctor about filling out disability forms but he said we'd have to wait for her neurologist to fill them out so it may be awhile to get her disability up and running. The cameras, monitors, motion sensors, anti smother devices, epilepsy watch are all very expensive but its our best chance to prevent sudden unexpected death of someone with epilepsy (SUDEP) these devices are critical to her well being as she has quit breathing numerous times while actively seizing. Not only will it protect her but will give peace of mind. I hate asking for handouts but its my daughter who's life is at risk. Any amount helps.
