“We Care!” Sponsorship & Scholarship Funds

Let's help to stop racism, bigotry and hate. You can now be part of the change and “Walk the Walk”! Please grab a coffee and read on.

This Go Fund Me account has two objectives, first to cover the final year $16,000 tuition of 19-year Mitchell Aninyang at Mohawk College in Hamilton, Ontario, plus raise an additional $34,000 to assist even more Visible Minority students gain their post-secondary educations. Hopefully, you will collectively find in your hearts to donate even more!

First, let’s introduce “We Care!” which will explain why we are undertaking this campaign.

“We Care!” is a group describing itself as follows: “Our goal is to negate racism & hate as much as possible. (The Forest) Our mission is to PROACTIVELY share our love and hearts. (The Seeds) By carrying out our Mission, (spreading seeds) we are forever working towards our Goal, (creating a forest). A forest of love, if you will ....”

Everyone is welcome to this Group. “We Care!” is located on Facebook at this LINK:

Anyone hurt by hate will enjoy scrolling the posts at “We Care!” It is a breath of fresh air amid the problematic platform the Main Stream and Social Medias give to racists, bigots and haters.

In contrast, “We Care!” is one of those positive seeds, helping to be the difference!

“We Care!” will conduct projects, both big and small and chosen by all Members, to help negate the effects of racism, bigotry and hate in all of our communities.

Now let’s get busy and “Walk the Walk”!

Project #1 will be “We Care!” Sponsorship & Scholarships, a proactive project to help build bridges, allowing the silent majority to “Walk the Walk” and be louder than the racists, bigots and haters.

By contributing to the first “We Care!” Sponsorship & Scholarship at this Go Fund Me site, you will help to advance the education of the Visible Minority. One day we hope our first example will inspire people or organizations to fund a “We Care!” Scholarship in every Canadian University and College.

If interested in helping to expand into all of Canada’s universities and colleges, here’s a full list of those learning institutions:

We have set our target at $50,000 to sponsor one chosen student, plus donate the balance raised to Mohawk to assist other Visible Minority students at their College, at their discretion and choosing.

Our “We Care!” Sponsorship will be awarded to Mitchell Aninyang, a 19-year-old International student who in 2020-2021 will be completing his final year at Mohawk College in Hamilton, Ontario, (9000 kilometres and one large pond away from his hometown of Uyo, Nigeria).

Mitchell is studying software development. A page has been developed on Facebook for this specific scholarship and has regular updates:

Mitchell literally walked into our lives as he worked his summer job to help pay for his tuition, rent, and all the expenses required to live half a world away from home to gain an education. This was what we recorded on Facebook the first day we met Mitchell:

“Today I was almost near tears a few times when I met this chap. His name is Mitchell, from Nigeria, and he is 19-years-old. He is going into his 3rd and final year studying Software Development at Mohawk College of Applied Arts and Technology in Hamilton, Ontario. If Canadian youth needed some inspiration, I'd elect to have them follow Mitchell around for a day. I saw him first at about 10:00 AM. It was 34C but the humidex was over 40. He was working viciously on a neighbour's driveway, getting rid of weeds growing in the cracks; plus cleaning the surface. He then coated it in a tar spray. Mitchell looked so hot I ran home to get a pop. All day long as I came and went from my dog-walking jobs, there was Mitchell on yet another driveway. I decided to chat and soon engaged him on a number of things. The deck of cards is stacked against him. Being a foreign student, his tuition is $16,000 v. $6,000 for a Canadian. He found a place for $500 per month to hang his hat while he studies in Canada. When I walked Maiina with yet another pop in my hands in the event we saw him again, there he was at 6:00 PM working on another driveway down the street. Explaining my month-long morose due to all the news about racism and bigotry, I could tell he sensed he could be open with me; that I am an ally. Being Black, he makes just over 1/3 what his white peers are pulling in. He explained how he gets "The Look" when white people see him at their doors. Discussing Mitchell with Marilyn, I suggested our first project for "We Care!" literally walked right up our street. At over 1000 Members, if we all donated an average of <$16 we could cover Mitchell's tuition for his 3rd and final year. If we make this happen, we would ask Mitchell to pay it forward in kind once he is established in life and see another needy student through a year of their education. Tonight I am sending Mohawk a proposal letter. Mitchell could be our first "seed" and we would also show that our caring is borderless!”
We sent a message of assurance to his parents in Nigeria stating, “Update. It is going to happen. Beautiful Canadians will embrace your son with virtual hugs, that will be seen as the proverbial village.”

Keep reading on and help make it happen!

Why? Simply: because humanity must become the proverbial Village. Everyone is born equal and everyone deserves peace and grace. Sadly, the dark shadow of racism, bigotry and hate is louder than the love and kindness of the silent majority. Moving forward, the latter must become louder, drowning out the voices of racism like the clamour of one million Rolling Stone concerts performing simultaneously in one venue.

The backstory to “We Care!” is both simple and beautiful and explains the desire to become the Village with innumerable projects such as scholarship funds allowing the aforementioned Silent Majority an opportunity for all to “Walk the Walk”. It all started with the simple gesture of anonymously giving a heart to a Visible Minority family feeling the scorn of racists. That was written in this note:

In summary, look how this Sponsorship & Scholarship Campaign is a win/win/win for so many people:

It will provide education to many. Imagine what those students could become. Imagine what they could discover or develop.
It provides the Silent majority of humanitarians a positive and influential means to fight the hate.
Our initial sponsorship shows the world we truly are one Village and with love and kindness there are no borders,
Every scholarship winner will be asked to commit to paying their scholarship forward and in turn help more students advance their education. This campaign has a never-ending possibility.

Thank you so much for taking the time to read this and then adding whatever you can to our fund.
