On the 30th of August 2021 Karl was diagnosed with a malignant brain tumor, medically known as glioma. Following strenuous surgery, Karl had the tennis ball sized tumor removed at a hospital in Maine. The surgery was successful, and Karl’s recovery so far has been nothing short of miraculous. Although vital to Karl’s life, the surgery came at a huge cost to him and his family. Medical bills will exceed $500,000 and so we need your help to Care for Karl.
The definition of a ‘Handy Man’, and a skilled, generous, and kind person, Karl has long found joy in offering a helping hand to many. His shock diagnosis will no doubt put a halt, if not a stop, to his career. Described by his friends as a ‘cat with nine lives’, it was of no surprise that even the most serious of diagnoses could not put Karl down. Soldiering on with a smile on his face, Karl is determined to tackle all the challenges that lie before him. However, not even the most brave and fearless individual can fight this battle alone. When the terrorist attacks of 9/11/2001 shook New York City and the entire world, Karl and nine other members of a brave team took to the streets to clear debris and look for survivors. Karl and his friends worked for eight days without PPE to support and help wherever needed. These heroes of selflessness have suffered the ultimate consequences of their kindness with eight of the team of ten having since passed away from cancer.
The initial removal surgery in September 2021 cost over $200,000 and the mountain of medical bills continues to pile up, with radiation therapy and further treatment beginning. Despite being in the very early stages of recovery, Karl was forced to discharge himself from hospital and relocate to a nearby hotel to save costs. There he is unable to receive treatment should the need arise. Many Americans know the worries associated with a lack of adequate health insurance and how an unexpected illness can plunge families into a deep state of debt with no way out. We cannot let this happen to him and his family. They are counting on your help to raise the $500,000 to Care for Karl.
