Life is unpredictable and you never know what is coming next, we desire something, plan something and get something else. Similarly, a tragedy happened with Ahmed ZAEEM on 31/10/2020, a 25-year-old Pakistani student. He had an accident in October which caused traumatic brain injury, Spinal injuries, Chest injuries and multi trauma, he was admitted to Royal Melbourne Hospital. He is 25-year-old, but brain functionality is of a 3-month-old kid. He is inconsistence with recalling memory of prior to accident, He can still remember & can communicate both in English and Urdu languages, as it is mystery for human beings how the language is processed in human brains. Due to the brain injury, he is unable to think and make decision like a normal person, social worker at the hospital contacted immigration and Ahmed's Institute of Higher Education and updated the circumstances, they reckon the best option for him is to go back to Pakistan and Ahmed’s believes that it is the only option for him. He cannot think any perspective as all is lost so he cannot plan as there is nothing on his slate in the light of which he can plan. Ahmed has no siblings, and his parents are already deceased so, Ahmed's Institute of Higher Education had contacted his paternal uncles back in Pakistan to find out if they will be interested to take responsibility of Ahmed if Ahmed is to return home. When Ahmed’s uncle refused to take any responsibility of Ahmed saying that “Ahmed is an adult, and he can look after himself so they don’t want to take his responsibility” ignoring the facts completely that Ahmed has lost his memory and he will need regular care throughout the rehabilitation process.

However, Ahmed's Institute of Higher Education then approached Mr Mohammed Ramzan (Next of Kin) on 21/Jan/2021 who is a Muslim community leader of Geelong, Victoria and who is originally from Pakistan and is also an accredited minister of religion in Australia to help. Mr Mohammed Ramzan is the Next of Kin of Ahmed. Upon receiving this request, Mr Mohammed Ramzan then contacted volunteers of Pakistan Welfare Organisation in Australia & other community members, from that point onwards the representative of the organisation has relentlessly been helping Ahmed.
Ahmed’s parents passed away when he was a kid so in Pakistan, he has no one who can take care of him. We have decided to keep him in Australia, as a community and guardians and make sure he faces minimum risks here and in Pakistan until he is stable to be able to take care of himself. We have confirmed the information with NADRA & got Ahmed’s FRC (family registration certificate) & found that he has not got any siblings and that his parents are dead. He has no assets in Pakistan or in Australia that can be sold to generate funds and support his living needs. He will not be getting any loss of income from TAC because his vehicle was unregistered at the time of accident, due to non-payment of renewal fee.
As this was an accident so we have contacted TAC (Transport Accident Commission) and they will be covering all the medical & travelling expenses for Ahmed, other than that we need to cover his accommodation & living expenses which will be around $40,000 for 2 years. We are requesting the community to come forward and help us to cover the cost of Ahmed living expenses.
PWOA (Pakistan Welfare Organisation in Australia) will be helping to monitor the funds raised through this campaign to pay the bills, rent, groceries , and the family taking care of Ahmed will be taking him to all his appointments.

We have planned to cover his living expenses for two years through these donations which includes accommodation, food, private health insurance for non-TAC related health issues or any unforeseen situation & immigration related costs for his visa and immigration lawyer’s fee.
He also had a VCAT claim of $3,060 against him by his landlord for non-payment of rent which started to accumulate from even before his accident because he was jobless during COVID and had no money to pay his rent, which continued to accumulate till 2nd February 2021 when his tenancy agreement ended. He currently has another claim of around $3,500 against him from the towing company who removed his car from the scene after the accident and held the car @ $30/day in their facility until January 29, 2021 when we have sorted out.
How is Ahmed now? We are grateful for his life. It is a miracle that he is alive despite what happened. I am appealing this on his behalf because I don’t want him to go through this alone and no one should go through such a horrifying experience on his own. Every dollar will matter to save Ahmed’s life and help him have a good new start where his brain and body can function normally.
