We are the Davis Family and we never lose!
On a recent trip to Chicago, four year old Elijah asked his dad to drive faster. He was worried too many cars were passing by and he shouted, "We are the Davis Family and we never lose." In the moment, his parents tried to balance his competitive spirit with the chances of speeding tickets and car accidents, but his statement quickly became a rallying call for the family.
Courtney was diagnosed with Triple Negative Breast Cancer in March 2022. Based on the aggressiveness of this form of cancer, Courtney and Justin immediately went to the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN. Following six months of chemotherapy and immunotherapy, Courtney underwent a double mastectomy in October 2022. The surgery was considered to be a success and the doctors believed that they were able to remove all of the cancer.
Unfortunately, just 75 days later the cancer not only returned, but it metastasized to the other side of her chest, to multiple lymph nodes, and her ribs.
Courtney's prognosis is not good and the doctors have advised her to go "see the places that she wants to see, and spend time with the people she loves ASAP."
But we aren't giving up. Courtney will be starting radiation to relieve some of her pain and will then begin a new chemo treatment soon after. In addition, Courtney and Justin will be going to MD Anderson in Houston, TX for a second opinion in March.
The family has received a number of requests on what can be done to help. While Courtney and Justin ask that no one feel obligated, they did want to create a mechanism for helping fund Courtney's medical treatment and allowing the family to create as many memories as possible.
