Help Jamaican Hospitality Workers Recover After Hurricane Melissa
Hurricane Melissa wiped out livelihoods.
Across Jamaica, hotel and hospitality workers were suddenly laid off as resorts closed for months. These are the cooks, housekeepers, groundskeepers, porters, bartenders, and service staff who keep Jamaica’s $4 billion-dollar tourism industry running—yet are the first to lose income and the last to receive support.
The National Hospitality Workers Union (NHWU) was formed in 2024 to stand with these workers in moments like this.
Right now, NHWU is raising funds to provide immediate, practical relief to hospitality workers who are struggling to meet basic needs after losing their jobs due to Hurricane Melissa. THere is no help from the government - something we are working actively to advocate for - and no help for our members from the resorts where used to work as contract workers.

Funds raised will go directly toward:
• Emergency food assistance for laid-off workers and their families
• Transportation support so workers can access services, interviews, and temporary work
• Emergency relief and worker guidance, including outreach and advocacy to help workers navigate layoffs and recovery
