Living in a building with no electricity

According to Electrical Safety Association (ESA) the electrical wiring in our building is too old and needs repair so they have deemed it unsafe to allow the building to continue having power. My landlord Adrian Faynwaches owner in trust of Gor-Fay Realty Company LTD has decided to do nothing about it in hopes it forces the tenants to leave.

This is because my neighbors and I have been there for many years and we are still protected by rent control laws, so he wants us out to renovate the place and charge more rent for the units.

On August 20th a worker with the ESA came to our building and with feelings of hopelessness and a breaking heart I stood there watching him flip the switch on our electrical boxes. He then looked at me and informed me he would be shutting down the main electrical line next, incase we got the bright idea to flip out electricity back on.

He walked down the lobby stairs out the door. As I sat on the stairs in shock of what was happening I watched as the exit signs and emergency lights shut off and I was left in near pitch black darkness.

Our landlord has put us through a lot in the past, neglect of putting a lock on our building's entrance for 5 years resulted in my waking to a stranger in my bedroom robbing me on two seperate occasions, they've lied to us, attempt to gaslight us the list goes on.

You may be asking yourself why I just move?

Well I have three reasons:

1. With the housing crisis and current rent prices I cannot afford to live anywhere else.

2. I've never let a bully win or keep me down, and I'm not about to let one take my home from me to profit off this housing crisis.

3. I've lived there almost a decade... Longer than I've lived anywhere my whole life. It is my home and I want to show others you can fight this kind of thing.

But I'm also freaked out as my EI is done but try making it through a job interview when you can't shower. The cost of things like having to eat out because I cannot cook or extra data for my phone to stay in touch with those worried about me has caught up with me.

Living without power had taught me how expensive life is without it, and has also shown me how much we take it for granted.

I know I've been in bad situations before, and I probably come off as some charity case but

I humbly am saying I need your help, now more than I ever have if I'm going to have a chance to win this fight.
