Since 1919, the Alpha House in Chicago has been a place for Brotherhood, Community Service, Networking, Activism, and Fellowship. Our location has changed through the years - 4104 S. Vincennes, 4432 S. King Drive, and our current location 8236 S. Western. However, the activities that take place in the “House” have remained constant. We focus on holding Alpha high while providing service and advocacy for our community. It is in this spirit that Sidney P. Brown, a resident at 4104 S. Vincennes at the time, shook hands and exchanged greetings, as he penned the poem “House of Alpha.”

We have been in our current location, the eXceL Center, since 2006 and much has been done. We have completely remodeled the interior of the facility; we installed an elevator; we replaced the roof; and we furnished each room; we upgraded our technology. However, we still have work to do in order to solidify this House of Alpha as a preeminent refuge for our community.

Of course during the pandemic we severely curtailed use of the eXceL Center. Hopefully that is about to change. The following projects are still pending: refinishing the parking lot, tuck-pointing, replacing the flooring in the community room, and installing signage on the building.

By the way, XLCAPA is now the eXceL Charitable Foundation. We have a new name, but we have the same mission. Your donation will go to this 501(c)3 non-profit.
