Hello my name is Rebecca Geiser. If you've ever known someone who suffers with a chronic disease, you know how it effects every aspect of ones life. Many people know those who suffer from diabetes and recieve insulin treatment, renal failure recieve dialysis, but what do you do when your digestive track just gives up on you? There is no alternative, no back-up plan. Motility issues are incredibly debiliating, painful, easily prone to infection, and are difficult to resolve. All of these things together would render someone incapacitated, except for the warriors. Gina Carfagno is a warrior. Her continued strength, perserverance, and determindation to not let this get her down. Years of intestinal issues, hundreds of doctors visits, more hospital stays then I could count, and mulitple visits to the Cleveland Clinc, she still managed to buy a house independantly, graduate with her Masters in Social Work, pass her certification for LCSW, be a mommy to her dog, and maintain a caseload of clients. Her first trip to the Cleveland Clinic, when they told her they didn't have answers, she would not accept it. She would not take no for answer. She was deteremined for an answer. With continued support from her doctors at Bryn Mawr Hospital, Temple Hospital , and the Cleveland Clinc, the journey for a resolution continued.  And with all that was happening, her experience did not make her bitter. She continued to perservere and proceeded with one of the most thankless line of work in helping others, even when no one could help her. After several surgeries, infections, TPN lines, and at one point she even had motility issues going all the way up to her esophagus (she had food that was stuck in her esophagus and stomach for days without movement), she always perserved. She keeps everyone up to date on her facebook posts. Her recent hospital stay has the doctors stumped. Her motility issues have gotten so bad they are dangerous. Her doctor from the Cleveland Clinic had determined her only option is an intestinal transplant and has place her on TPN until the transplant is complete. This means she will receive all nutrients by a port. Yes, that means she will not be eating.  This was the last resort and can cause further issues, but they are out of ideas. Gina is worried about this new, unfamiliar, and extreme resolution. This will cause her to be required to stay in Cleveland for an extended period time so she can be monitored by the stafff. I am starting this page to help with those lodging conditions. This is a HUGE undertaking, and months long lodging is expensive. I would love to get over $1,000, but anything helps. I cannot stress enough how utterly amazing this girl's strength is. This rollercoater ride of a life is has  had would break a weaker person. She has always said that she has gotten by with help and support of friends and loved ones, please help me help her with this support. If she didn't give up in this horrific circumstances, we shouldn't either.
