DS Wood BATtle Back
Hello my name is Ken Kulina, and I have been head baseball coach at Lower Dauphin High School in south central PA for the last 18 years. My connection to the Schwartz family began almost 20 years ago at a local baseball camp. Both Richie and Ryan would attend camp every summer from the time they were 7 years old. It was evident from an early age they were extremely passionate about the game of baseball, "It was in their blood." Later I had the pleasure to coach both at the high school level.
The brothers continued to play collegiately at Lebanon Vally College in Annville, PA. Every summer they continued to come back to the baseball camp, now as camp instructors, and they would donate personalized bats to our Homerun Derby winners each year. Their continued love of baseball lead them to starting their own wood bat company in 2009. DS Wood Bats was originally housed in thier garage, but then moved to a larger facility in their same hometown of Hummelstown, PA., and another former LD player/teammate, Gregg Willams joined their team.
Here's a link to a recent article about them and their business.

As I was driving to my daughter's HS graduation, I was passed by numerous fire trucks. In my rearview mirror, I could see a large ball of smoke over the town. While at graduation, I learned through texts and social media that the fire was in the building where DS Wood Bats was housed. Their business was destroyed by this fire on June 4th, 2015.
As a coach, I look at each of my players like they are my sons, and these guys just got thrown a curve ball that I can't teach them to hit. This is going to take a whole team of friends, family and supporters to get them back swinging again.
