Keith Hubley's Cancer Battle

Donation protected
This is my brother Keith and his wife Jolene. Up until January 2022 he was the picture of health; working out every day, staying fit, doing all the right things. Then, it was discovered that a large malignant tumour had all but destroyed one of his kidneys. It was subsequently removed and Keith began the process of healing from this major surgery. We all wanted to believe that was the end of Keith's trials but such is not the case.
This year, new metastases were discovered on Keith's spine. Undaunted, Keith now faced radiation therapy to clear what we all hoped were a few small spots of cancer, nipping it in the bud so to speak. Keith hadn't even had his follow-up oncology appointment before he began to experience excruciating pain in his upper back which brought him to urgent care where they discovered he had a spinal fracture. Probably from a sneeze. Yes...a sneeze. Because radiation weakens bone, all it took was a violent unexpected sneeze to cause a fracture in a vertebra. During the course of diagnosing the fracture, radiology turned up new metastases, again on the spine and they confirmed the presence of cancer is his lymph node closest to where his ruptured kidney used to be.
Keith is now facing a much longer battle combining radiation, immune therapy and an oral chemotherapy regime that will likely last years. This is a very aggressive cancer. Keith has used all available time he had through his job as a custodian with the Anglophone South School District. Effectively he borrowed time against his retirement but has now been told he will not be returning to work. Keith's wife Jolene is employed and will remain so, but will be taking a brief time off to be his primary caregiver. However new meds and other expenses are adding to their already tight budget and without Keith's salary, even with the allowances provided through the federal government, will simply not allow them to get by and fulfill their financial obligations such as mortgage and utilities.
So here we are. As a family we are doing what we can but we're turning now to Keith's large circle of friends to help. For a proud man such as Keith, you know this isn't an easy decision. So, please...if you're able, donate to Keith's GoFundMe and share this with your friends. We're trying to make up the difference without Keith's salary for a two year period, during which time Keith and his wife and family can concentrate on healing and recovery.
We thank you for your generosity and will endeavour to keep everyone informed on Keith's recovery.
