My brother Sean was diagnosed with Parkinson's 10 years ago, when he was only 39. Over the past 10 years his disease has progressed slowly and has now taken over the left side of his body, his head, and he is now showing symptoms on his right side.
He has just gone through the testing and appointments to find out if he is a candidate for DBS surgery, and today we found out the great news, he is! DBS surgery will allow Sean to have 2 small electrodes implanted into his brain and have a neurotransmitter implanted in his chest to control his movements.
The bad news is that his portion of the surgery bills and follow up visits can be upwards of $30,000. It is a long procedure with an overnight stay in the ICU. With several follow up visits to make the proper adjustments.
Sean is a father of 3 and works as a shop mechanic and tow operator. He is a generous man who is always willing to help. His salary and benefits will not come close to allowing him to have this much needed surgery.
Without the surgery it is likely his employment status will change in the near future as he has already exceeded his doctors prediction to continue working at his physical job.
This surgery in conjunction with medication will give him the opportunities to stay employed, continue caring for his kids, and have a much better quality of life.
Thank you for visiting Sean's page, any donation is most appreciated!
