John’s Double Lung Transplant
Donation protected
Our Dad, John Cunningham is a fighter.
When he became sick two years ago he remained determined to continue working and living life the best he could considering physical limitations.
His lungs were not properly oxygenating his blood, his heart would pump harder to try to make up the difference. This put stress on his heart while still leaving him very short of breath. He relied on portable oxygen during the day and an oxygen machine at home.
Still - with his big personality and amazing sense of humor he fought as hard as his could, he did his best to go to work every day and care for his family. His heart was on the verge of failing and he was left house bound to the oxygen machine. His portable oxygen could not provide enough for him any longer and required large oxygen tanks to get him to and from doctor appointments.
His only hope was a double lung transplant. On September 21st this was made possible thanks to Dr. Kon, the amazing team at NYU Langone and the angel who has donated a second chance at life to our father.
The surgery went well however there were some complications following. Dad was in an induced coma for a few weeks which has prolonged his recovery time.
His goal through all of this has been to get better, live life to the fullest & get back to work. He has been responding well to physical therapy and working hard to get his strength back but he does have a long road ahead of him and we are not sure when he physically will be able to return to work.
The medical and travel costs have been adding up and we are asking for your help, any donation would be greatly appreciated.
If you cannot donate but would like to send a card or words of encouragement, please do. Keeping our Dad's spirits high is very important during this physical & emotional journey.
Thank you for your time <3
