Hope Kyle Peters is 13 years old and is on life support at Akron Children's Hospital. She fell ill with common cold symptoms 2 weeks ago and within days was admitted to the hospital, falling unconscious and placed on life support quickly. Doctors have outlined the culprit as Flu A and Pneumonia.
Hope's mother, Pamela, is a friend of mine. Pam and I worked together a few years ago for several years. Pam has not left her daughters side and has no plans to leave until her daughter is awake and doing well.
Doctors believe that Hope is improving a little every day based on their tests and they are expecting her to recover. Could be a week, could be a month. After almost 25 years at the same small family company as the office manager, Pam does NOT get one hour of paid time off to be with her daughter, even under these circumstances that obviously require her to be away from her desk.
Pam has fostered and adopted several children over the years. She is always the first to give up an extra bed or couch she has for someone who needs it. She is the person who will drive hours out of her way when you need a ride because you can't reach anyone else and she hardly even knows you! She's that person you want in your corner and expects nothing in return.
Not knowing how many more weeks she will be with her daughter and not at work, I have set the goal to cover at least 4-6 weeks of lost income so she can focus on the recovery of her child and not how her family will get by in the coming weeks.
