WC VAN REPAIR
Donation protected
Hello, I am Pam Lewis. My son Alex was involved in a car accident in 2008 which left him as a C3, C4, C5 and C6 quadriplegic. He has some shoulder movement and a small amount of use of his arms that being said, he is unable to feed himself and relies on his dad for all of his daily needs. His father(Don )is his main care giver he gave up his management job to take care of Alex and does a fabulous job. He saved money (for the past year) to purchase a wheelchair accessible van so that Alex could go places. Alex has been literally stuck at home and has been battling a wound for nearly 2 years now. His wound is now healed up and we were excited when we found an inexpensive van for him. Alex was thrilled!! He was so looking forward to going to the coast .He loves to go to the movies and really enjoys eating at a restaurant (Moe’s and Skippers chowder are just favorite!)
Unfortunately, the van was sold to us with a blown head gasket and a bad transmission (it drove fine from Eugene to Lebanon )The mechanic believes they used an additive to the van to mask the engine problems. Sadly, we were “suckered”. The repairs to the van are going to be $3500+. Neither Alex, myself or Alex’s dad have this . I am literally begging for help .
I want Alex to have quality of life as he has not really had any for 14 years. He has no visitors other than us (all of his friends no longer visit him) He was excited to have some kind of normalcy even a McDonald’s drive through would be a big outing . My family’s heart has been breaking for 14 years I just want my son to have quality of life . Any amount will be greatly appreciated .
