Help Debbie Beat Breast Cancer

On April 4th, my dear friend, Debbie (Renata) Montemayor, went in for her five year Breast Cancer checkup expecting a clean bill of health. Unfortunately, she left the appointment with the news that a biopsy was necessary due to an abnormal mammogram. After the biopsy, she was diagnosed with a Breast Cancer recurrence of Invasive Ductal Carcinoma. Deb has already undergone extensive and invasive testing and is beginning this tough battle ahead of her these next few weeks. This is the fight of her life and right now, Deb needs all the emotional and financial support she can get. Her journey will involve a lumpectomy, radiation, an oophorectomy (ovary removal surgery) and possibly chemotherapy.

Deb is a mother, a daughter, a sister, an aunt, a loyal friend, a talented furniture fixer, among many other things. We all know that Charlie, her pup, is her most loyal companion and business partner. She has two beautiful daughters, Paola and Natalia who have been a great source of comfort during this new diagnosis. Her oldest daughter will be married in a few weeks in Mexico. Making sure that Debbie gets to attend and is as comfortable as possible at her daughter’s wedding and continue on with “normal life” is our top priority.

Many of us have so many great memories with her and we have plenty more to make. I have known her to take calls in the middle of the night when a friend is down. I have seen her rescue helpless animals any opportunity she can. Many kind acts of compassion are not something we know of because she doesn’t always tell us. But, many of us have a story to tell about a time Deb stepped up. I want us to help step up for her as she navigates through these next few months.

This is not Deb’s first rodeo with breast cancer. In 2017 she underwent a bilateral mastectomy, a DIEP flap reconstruction, chemotherapy and hormone therapy for five years. She sold her home, her car and her belongings, minimized her life, and started a completely different life. What she did with those five years inspired many of us to be in moments, do what we love, be kinder, love harder, CHECK OURSELVES and to live every day as if it’s our last.

Please consider donating anything you can to help Deb win this battle. All of your support is deeply appreciated by Deb, her family and her friends.
