On October 2nd, our good friend Olivia Allchin was involved in an awful motorcycle accident on the 210 Freeway. She had traumatic injuries to her elbow and foot and suffered many broken bones on the left side of her body, from her shoulder, arm, wrist, and fingers down to her lower leg, ankle, and heel.

After she was rushed to the trauma center, the team of doctors worked hard to save her foot (at one point, they were concerned it might not be saved). Since her first surgery, her doctors have strategized how best to proceed, considering her age. Olivia has already been through five surgeries to rebuild her foot and other broken bones with rods, screws, plates, grafts, and plastic surgery. While the doctors are hopeful that their work so far will save her foot, she will have a long road of recovery ahead.

SUPPORT FOR HER LONG ROAD TO RECOVERY

While we’re grateful that insurance will cover some of this, we know that this is the start of a long journey of rehabilitation, and she will need all the help she can get. Over the next year, Olivia will be focusing on recovery, including follow-up surgeries, doctor visits, medications, and physical therapy, with many unforeseen costs.

We've been told that she may be unable to stand for six months, which will also make it very difficult for her to work; she knows that putting a pause on her culinary career is necessary.
