My name is Briana Beebe and I'm trying to raise enough money to get my blind dog, Dobby, cataract surgery. Dobby is my entire world. As cheesy as it may sound, he is truly my soul dog and the best companion I have.
Last July, Dobby was diagnosed with Diabetes Type I. Since the summer of 2021, he has been in and out of the hospital for various treatments and tests as we tried to figure out how to get his diabetes under control. After thousands of dollars and months of trial and error, Dobby is finally healthy and stable!
However, because of his diabetes, Dobby has gradually been developing cataracts since last fall. He is almost completely blind now. Recently, Dobby went to an animal eye specialist in Denver and they said he would be a great candidate for surgery! This surgery would guarantee that he would be able to see for the rest of his life. He is only five years old and has a lot of life ahead of him, so this surgery would be so worth it.
This procedure is a total of 4,600 dollars– this covers bloodwork, cataract surgery, and four follow up appointments. I’ve been working a lot, but as you may expect, a 12-bucks-an-hour job while being a full-time student doesn’t allow for a whole lot of saving.
This surgery means so much to me, not only because I want Dobby to be happy, but because he is a huge part of my happiness. As most of you know, Dobby comes to college with me in Florida. Having him with me at school has been such a game changer. He is a registered emotional support animal and has helped my struggles with depression and anxiety more than anything else has. However, I don’t feel that it would be ethical to take him to Florida until he is able to see again. If everything goes as planned, this surgery would take place in September and would allow him to come back to Eckerd with me in the spring, which would mean more to me than you can imagine.
Please, do not feel pressured to contribute if you don’t want to or don’t have the means. However, I would be eternally grateful for anything you are willing to give, even if it’s just a dollar!
Also, I realize that September is coming up soon, so if I can’t completely fund the surgery by then, I will push the scheduled date back and continue to save until I reach that amount. I promise that all money you contribute will be solely devoted to Dobby’s surgery expenses, even if the procedure has to be pushed back.
Dobby has saved my life time and time again, and now, I am trying to do whatever I can to make sure he is happy and healthy.
