Please Help Rob and Bobbie...

Rob and Bobbie Cadwell are probably well known to many of you and maybe not as well known for many more readers of this request. To our family, they are sons and daughters, cousins, aunts and uncles, nieces and nephews. To their friends, they are a kind and compassionate couple who would do anything for family and and friends.

It’s been a hard couple of years for Rob and Bobbie. They found each other, fell in love and after a whirlwind romance, got married in September 2017. Now, after three short years together, cancer is threatening to take Rob, the love of her life, away from Bobbie. She has said many times that Rob has changed her life, and Rob has said the same. Until they met, they never knew true love, acceptance and comfort like they do now.

A year into their marriage, the economy demanded a transition from the oilfield trucking business that Rob had built into a success. They started an equipment rental business that was meant to make all their dreams come true. Rob worked harder than ever to build this new business, sometimes 20 hours a day, to get it to the point where it became profitable.

Then the nightmare began. At age 48, Rob was diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer and underwent emergency surgery to remove a malignant tumour that was creating a complete blockage of his colon.

In preparing for the surgery, his doctors discovered that the cancer had spread to his liver as well.  At the time, surgeons said that his liver cancer was inoperable, but Rob didn’t accept that.

Following his colon surgery, Rob (with Bobbie's help) began a year-long regimen of chemotherapy, and lived an ultra-healthy lifestyle, changing his diet and giving the chemo the best chance to rid his body of as much cancer as possible. Late last year, surgeons gave Rob some good news!

The chemo had reduced the cancer in his liver, and they felt the chance of a successful surgery was now worth the risks it posed.  In February, they removed 80% of his liver and his gallbladder.  After recovering from that surgery, Rob recently went to emergency after coughing up blood, only to discover he has now developed multiple blood clots in his lungs. The future has never been less clear. Doctors are developing a treatment plan, but it’s complicated by the cancer that still remains in his body, ongoing chemotherapy treatment, and his body’s reduced immunity.

Throughout his cancer fight and recovery, Rob couldn’t physically work. He and Bobbie had to close their new business and liquidate its assets, leaving a significant debt. They sold most of the equipment at a loss and have been unable to sell the rest. Bobbie has been the sole source of income for their family. Even when she’s able to work full time, they can’t make ends meet between paying medical bills and paying down their debt.

But, working full time isn’t a real option right now either. The pandemic has made that difficult, and Bobbie needs to be with Rob in hospital, drive him to chemo treatments and care for him has he works through each stage of this illness. She is doing what she can to pay their bills ... but it just isn’t enough right now. They have been worrying endlessly under the weight of this financial pressure and are now at a breaking point. They are near bankruptcy and their home is at risk

Having to reach out for help to their friends and family is not comfortable nor something they ever thought they would have to do. All of their lives, Rob and Bobbie have both worked very hard to be financially independent. Nothing could have prepared them for what they have faced in the past sixteen months.

We, their extended family are helping as best we can, but we know that our extended network of friends and family could be a huge ally in this  fight.  We’re asking you to help however you can, and thank you in advance for any assistance you can provide. Life for Bobbie and Rob has been scary, uncertain, and frustrating, and we don’t want them to lose their home. The funds will help to pay for medical costs, let them stay in their home and give them the time to fully beat this horrible disease!

Thank you from the bottom of our hearts,

Their cousins. XOXO
