Hello, my name is Mark Ramirez. I'm seeking help for medical bills. On July 2nd, 2024, I was involved in a police motorcycle crash while escorting a military funeral in San Antonio, Texas. In 2019, I retired as a full-time Deputy with 28 years of service with the Bexar County Sheriff's Office. At the time of the crash, I was a Reserve Deputy and was off duty, working an extra motorcycle job escorting a funeral. I sustained multiple injuries during the crash, which consisted of internal injuries, a punctured lung, 10 fractured ribs, multiple fractures on all three sections of my spine, a fractured scapula, an injured left knee with all ligaments torn, a broken right foot, and a concussion. At one point, my heart stopped at the point of impact with a large tree. I had an out-of-body experience seeing my body on the ground face down. I believe my heart started up again when I saw and heard my body gasping for air. I was transported to the hospital in critical condition. I spent 4 days in ICU and was released after 6 days. It's been a difficult road to recovery and learning how to walk again. I have been diagnosed with full PTSD. My wife has endured a lot, taking care of me this whole time. She has been my rock. So far, I've had 5 surgeries and need 4 more to go. Due to the extent of my injuries, I've been told by doctors I would not be able to return to work. Unfortunately, the vehicle I was involved with in the crash had no vehicle insurance. My motorcycle was a total loss. I had to retire completely from the Sheriff's office due to my injuries and had to give up my peace officer's license. At the time of the crash, I had insurance. It has covered most of my medical bills, but not completely. I've had to pay a lot out of pocket, which has mounted up, along with other bills. I've used most of my savings to keep up, and it is getting tight financially. I still have a long road in front of me with future surgeries coming up the rest of the year and probably going into 2027.
I'm asking anyone who is able to help us at this time. I understand times are tough for everyone.
Thank you,
Mark Ramirez
