LUNA NEEDS SURGERY!!!! ASAP!
Hello friends. Many of you have met Luna. Luna was a “last chance” rescue from Oklahoma. She is 5 years old.
She has a torn Cranial Cruciate Ligament; this would be the equivalent of a torn ACL in humans.
She is extremely active and landed in a weird way while playing fetch. Genetics also play a huge factor in why this happened to her.
Unfortunately, Luna needs corrective surgery ASAP…..the longer we wait, the less likely recovery will be. Because of her young age, this surgery (99% success rate) is the only way to ensure she will be able to run again. Her other leg is at risk of the same injury while she favors it.
If Luna doesn’t get the surgery she needs, more scar tissue will develop and the joint instability will worsen. Running will not be possible, and walking would be difficult and painful for her. Physical therapy is an option when the ligament is only partially torn. Unfortunately for Luna, her CCL is almost fully torn, if not fully torn.
Luna is a cattle dog. She LOVES to play fetch, to run on trails, and she loves to swim . Her happiness depends on her ability to do these things.
She has muscle atrophy in her “bad” leg now. Physical therapy is required to gain muscle back while preventing further damage to ensure a successful recovery after surgery. Further physical therapy is required post-surgery.
Luna is in constant pain because of this injury, and it is heartbreaking. I’m sure you are all aware of how sweet and gentle Luna is. She is full of love, and now she needs love.
I find myself in a difficult financial situation, especially given how soon she must get the surgery. If you are able to give anything at all, Luna and I thank you so much!
The exact cost is still unknown, but I was told the surgery itself is around $7,000. Physical therapy would cost $2,500-$3,000.
Please help me help Luna!
