A life-saving treatment for Django

Django is a lovely, intelligent amazing four and a half year old beagle. For most of his life Django has been a hunting dog. Django was seen as a hunting tool rather than a sentient being. He was kept in an outside pen and only taken outside when a hunt was on. Last year, he became quite lonely when his companion dog died and he also developed epilepsy. He also became terrified of his "master" and of all the electrical shocks he got in his head.

A group of friends got together to find Django a new home and for the last six months Django has lived with his adopted mother, Maria, as a much loved pet. Django quickly got used to living indoors and although he has never been trained (except as a hunting dog) he quickly adapted to home life. It has been incredible to see how he seems to want to be a good dog and to be a part of his new family.

Earlier this month Maria noticed that Django lacked energy and was much fussier about his food. This is when everything started. She also noticed he was losing weight quite quickly. The vet diagnosed anaemia and his situation was so critical that he needed specialist treatment. Django was taken to the Toulouse Veterinary School where he has received excellent care, a blood transfusion and lots of tests. It’s taken several weeks and Django has lost 7kg. Now he has a diagnosis of non-regenerative anaemia in addition to several other health problems. You can find out more about non-regnerative anaemia in dogs here: Non regenerative anaemia.

The great news is that Django can be treated and we are optimistic that he will make a recovery. The difficult news is that this is expensive. Django’s adopted mother has already incurred costs of approximately 3,000€ and the medicine to treat him is going to cost around 550€ a month. The group have managed to raise 1,000€ and would like to now raise a further 3,000€ - to cover the costs already incurred and to cover the costs of medicine going forward. A sponsor has agreed to raise all donations by 25% so for example, a 10€ donation will be increased to 12.50€. We realise that there are many worthy causes crying out for support but hope that you will support Django to recover from his illness.

If you are able to donate, either a one off sum or a monthly contribution we would be very grateful. Please note that gofundme will add a service fee but this is optional. You can use the slider to set it to any level you choose including zero.
For those donors living close to Lavaur we would like, once Django is up to it, to invite you to a picnic with Django so that you can see what a lovely, friendly dog Django is in spite of the difficult life he lived as a hunting dog. Thank you very much for considering donating.
