15 Things – A Personal Guide to being the Carer for a Cancer Patient.
My wife Melanie was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer on 8th September 2023.
We were given a vast amount of information and advice to help us understand the numerous medical pathways and day-to-day processes we could expect.
This was all vital and valuable.
But, after the first few weeks of meetings and treatments, I felt there was something missing: information and advice for me. Who cares for the carer? What do they get? So I wrote down everything that I wished I’d known on 8th September.
The result is 15 Things, a guide to being the carer for a cancer patient. It’s a twenty page booklet giving information and suggestions on how to navigate the most traumatic of times. It empowers the carer, something specifically for them. It’s an essential guide that currently doesn’t exist, but really needs to.
If half of us are going to get this disease, then the other half are going to have to look after them. That’s literally millions of carers.
The charities and GPs that have read 15 Things so far have echoed the same thought: why doesn’t this exist? Well now, finally, it does.
We urgently need to send it out around the country to the millions who will benefit.
We’re fundraising £40,000 to print an initial 50,000 guides, pay for UK distribution and run a PR campaign to tell everyone that it’s available. We really hope you can help.
Thanks in advance for any support you can give.
