Dear Binghamton community members and neighbors,
Here at Binghamton High School, we have a beloved therapy dog named Lucky. Lucky is here every week and has created loving bonds with hundreds of our students and staff members. He is a sweet, affectionate 2 and a half year old golden retriever. His Mom-one of our PE teachers-Shawna Klein takes extra time every week to sit with students who may struggle with anxiety, depression, bullying, loss, and so much more. Even on days for students and staff, when we just need a furry hug-he is there for us.
Time for us to be there for him. Lucky brightens all of our days when he is here. Recently Lucky was struggling to walk. At first, the veterinarians thought our beautiful therapy dog had Lyme disease. But it turns out that Lucky has been diagnosed with cancer (at his very young age). We are rallying around him in hopes that he gets better. He has gotten many students and even myself (as a teacher) through days when sadness seemed impossible to lift. We are hoping that the community can send their best wishes and donate so that we can help him and support the Klein family during this difficult time. His testing, vet visits, and treatment are all adding up daily. We are hoping to alleviate the financial burden these costs are placing on Shawna and Chris so that they can focus on helping our sweet boy get better. He is a member of our BHS family and we want to give him the best life so that he can continue to love and support all of us who need him. Any and all help (no matter how small) is appreciated!
