Wayward Son’ in a nutshell...
In the summer of 1854, a widowed husband and his son become hopelessly stranded deep within the California wilderness while in search of gold.
What’s the film about?
After losing his wife to influenza, William Teller and his son gamble on the prospect of discovering gold deep within the unforgiving Sierra Nevadas. When the pair strike a rich gold deposit they soon find themselves ransacked of their horses and supplies. Thrust into a fight for survival, William and Thomas must endure hunger, thirst, and their inability to communicate. At last, the pair are confronted by their unexpected saboteur who holds the key to their survival.
Why ‘Wayward Son’? Why now?
Two years after its conception, 'Wayward Son' is now a feature length Western-Survivalist film project initiated by Jared Zabel and Andrew Weiler. Now a collective of creative professionals, the 'Wayward Son' team is well on its way to producing its first independently funded film, set to shoot in April 2019.
A note from the Producers...
With your support we are confident our project will reach our preliminary fundraising goal of $5,000 while also expanding our community of sponsors. As a project sponsor you are an invaluable part of our team with the opportunity to financially back the production, engage prospective sponsors, and spread the word about our remaining $15,000 crowdfunding goal.
Our team has secured $20,000 in support of this production from private investors and have identified a projected budget of $40,000. 'Wayward Son' is now more than halfway towards being fully funded! It's up to our project sponsors to help us close the gap, and raise the remaining funds necessary to make our vision for 'Wayward Son' a reality.
So what’s the timeline for this project?
Principle production begins in late-April 2019, consisting of ten shoot days broken into two five day "sprints". After all the footage has been collected our team will begin post-production consisting of footage assembly, soundtrack, titles, and special effects. By early-August 2019 our film will be ready to submit for grants, fellowships, and film festivals. These opportunities increase the financial support for our film and provide exposure among the industry’s top critics, distributors, and funders.
Pre-production: October 2018 - April 2019
Production: April 2019
Post production: May - July 2019
Festival, grant, and fellowship applications: July 2019 - Ongoing
Projected festival premiere: Fall 2020
