This is Way (they/them). Today (September 2nd) is my 24th solar return and 24 days until one of the most important moments of my life. I will be undergoing top surgery (breast tissue removal) on Tuesday September 26th as a major milestone in my gender journey! As I have come more into myself, I recognize this as an important step for me to live as my most liberated and authentic self. It feels especially aligned to be doing this in my zodiacal year and birth month. In many ways, this will be a second (or perhaps just extended) birthday and a new beginning to the rest of my life !

There are some external pressures informing my decision as well. The U.S. government has been increasingly hostile towards trans folks in the past few years, especially in the realm of gender-affirming care. In 2023 alone, the number of anti-trans bills passed in legislation has doubled (https://translegislation.com). We've seen a massive rollback of human rights across the board, impacting anyone who is not white/wealthy/cishetero/man/christian, especially Black and Indigenous communities, and trans humans in particular. I wanted to take the opportunity to access this life-saving care while it is still available to me "legally", and while I'm covered under my mom's insurance.

Any donations will go towards the "cost of living" while I am unable to work (rent, debt, medical fees, food, supplies) and general trans joy, safety, and comfort. I used funds I received for my legal name change on this surgery, so I would love to make that back and be able to proceed with that process as well.

Unrelated: My dad always says that 24 is his favorite number and the best year of his life and that he is #Forever24 LOL
