On Friday August 5th, Wayne was driving home from work, he'd been driving his truck making deliveries all day. About 45 minutes into his hour long commute, something happened. His car drove off the road, down into a ditch, up the enbankment and then launched across a parking lot. It came to rest by impacting a concrete parking blockade, which was the only thing keeping the car from entering a Rite Aide Pharmacy lobby.
The small car was destroyed and EMS were supprised he was still alive. He was unconscious and many on the scene assumed he was a drunk driver, but that was not Wayne. The cause, we would later discover, was a tiny clot in his brain. He lost all function on the right side of his body, instant paralysis.
Over the next few days we would learn that he would have a long and challenging road ahead, and where it would lead, no one could say for sure. He was tested and scanned and monitored. Drips and drugs changing until his vital signs were stabilized. Then he opened his eyes.
(Dorine) Christy, his long time love, was there.
Wayne and Christy had married just two months before, making their forever commitment to each other public. Christy was devastated. Wayne couldn't talk or move, but he was alive, and that's all that mattered.
Wayne is progressing some each day. He needs 24 hour care and lots of therapy ahead of him to regain his former strength and abilities. He will be in rehabilitaion for months to come. Christy has been and will continue to be there beside him. Encouraging him every small step along the way.
Neither of them would ask for your help, so I am asking for them. The medical bills and loss of income are already tremendous. Wayne did not have insurance at the time of his accident. His work was struggling to get him enough jobs and hours. He was not able to pay the high premiums to keep the coverage without steady income. He had not yet been switched onto Christy's coverage, since they were newly married.
I'm starting this site because they would never ask, but without help they would lose their home and have nothing left. Christy told me a few days after the accident, that they could lose everything and as long as they were together, they would be ok. But I think, people care, together we can help.
They would think someone else needs help more than they do. They were always the ones that helped others. They looked out for people, took in the stray dog from the neighborhood, sent food to the neighbors, and took care of their neice on weekends. They are the most giving and loving couple. If you know them, you already know that. If you don't know them, they are the kind of people you would want to know and they would take you into their lives like family.
No matter what happens, no matter what is ahead of them, one thing is certain, they will keep loving each other and they will get through this together.
Let's celebrate that love and show them our support. Even $5 adds up when everyone gives a little.
They would love your cards or encouraging words.
Gift Card donations for groceries at Food Lion or Walmart are also appreciated.
