On January 6th, 2024, Wayne passed away unexpectedly of heart failure in his 71st year. Wayne was a very hard working, talented and fun-loving man who yearned for a life of connection and beauty. He valued service to others and made sure he did what he could for a greater good.
Everyone who knew Wayne felt his warm thoughtfulness, his accommodating manner, his generosity of spirit and his loving ways. He was there when you needed him. When unpleasant duties had to be done, and no one else would do them, he stepped up to the plate without complaint. And to top all of this, he was fun to be with. He loved good conversation with good food. He loved good music and jazz and he loved to dance especially to the Rhythm and Blues tunes of the 50’s, 60’s and 70’s. Often in our home, it was not unusual for him to take my or another friend’s hand and dance in the kitchen.
Wayne was a community-spirited man and he tried to make his community better - in his work and by volunteering in various capacities.
One late summer evening in September, 1994, Wayne and I found one another in a cool jazz club called the Gate 403. We conversed and fell in love over a couple of glasses of nicely chilled white wine. On December 20, 2023 we celebrated our 27th wedding anniversary.
To honour Wayne and everyone who believes in the power of love to bring people together, I would like to have a Celebration of Life with family and friends, with the music he loved, the food he enjoyed and the exchange of memories. Although we won’t be able to hear his deep baritone voice and his laughter, he will be with us in spirit as we say so long.
