On Monday evening, May 22, I received a stunning phone call from my friend, Kelli. "Please pray for Wayne. He's been hit on his bike. I don't know much right now. He was found in the ditch."
Kelli's husband, and my friend and co-worker, Wayne Getz, was riding his bike on St. Rt. 66, just south of Ottoville, when a vehicle hit him from behind. The vehicle did not stop, leaving Wayne injured and lying on the side of the road. A passer-by found him and was able to contact Kelli and call 911 for help.
Wayne was transported to the hospital with many injuries: a compound fracture on one arm (for which he has had surgery), multiple fractures in his pelvis, with the worst one being close to his hip joint. He has suffered blood in his abdomen due to several hematomas, and to add to the problems, has experienced a partial collapse of the lower part of each lung.
Wayne spent multiple days in the ICU, was moved to the orthopedic ward and will next be transferred to an in-patient rehab facility. Currently, he is not able to use his arms, his right leg, and virtually every part of his body has an injury.
It is unfathomable and disturbing to ponder that someone driving a vehicle hit Wayne on his bike, and left him severely injured in the ditch. The driver is still at large. https://www.limaohio.com/top-stories/2023/05/23/bicyclist-from-delphos-injured-in-hit-skip-accident-near-ottoville/
Meanwhile, it is also unfathomable to think about the financial costs that the Getz family is incurring due to this hit-and-run situation.
What many of you don't realize is that Wayne Getz is an enormous asset to this community. Few people see him, but many see his work. He is my co-worker at TV-44 and is the behind-the-scenes point man, and my key partner in pretty much every television production I do in my job. Wayne is an awesome individual with a heart to serve others. Today I am asking for you to bless Wayne and Kelli so that they don't have to think about the medical costs and other financial losses they will incur while he recovers.
Thank you for your donations.
