In March of 2020, our 8-yr-old daughter was diagnosed with Lyme Disease. She had the disease for about two years before she was diagnosed. Because it was so deeply embedded into her system (including her brain), the 28-day Doxycycline treatment was ineffective and resulted in her experiencing dramatically negative symptoms. She lost the ability to walk and even to use her hands to feed herself or use the bathroom without assistance. She was bedridden for months and needed to be carried or moved in a wheelchair anywhere she went.
A few months later, her older sister (18) who had struggled with persistent stomach issues and chronic fatigue (without a diagnosis despite seeing many specialists), was also diagnosed with Lyme.
In August 2020, our 4-yr-old daughter became ill and was taken to the hospital. They suspected Meningitis and rushed her by ambulance to a larger children's hospital two hours away. She spent 5 days in the hospital and was eventually diagnosed as having Lyme Disease.
A couple of weeks later, her brother (14) was diagnosed with Lyme Disease.
We are very grateful to be members of Samaritan Ministries Medical Cost-Sharing program that provides health coverage for our entire family of 12 (we have 10 children) for only about $550 a month. This covers most of our doctor visits and prescription medications. It does not cover additional costs like travel to and from doctors, some physical therapy, alternative health treatments like supplements, special dietary foods, herbs or any other protocol the doctors may recommend. Many clinics recommend their own customized protocols for the treatment and one clinic we talked to already has said this will be $600 a month (above the prescription meds) for both girls. We don't know yet what the LLMD clinic will recommend. We have talked to several families who told us they have easily spent $30,000 or more on their medical treatment, per person, for Lyme alone.
I am an author and conference speaker and make about 80% of our family's annual income between March-June. With the COVID-19 outbreak, our ability to make money has been severely limited. We have our basic personal and ministry expenses (bills and food) as well as the ongoing medical treatment of our children. We are thankful to God's people for this! We are starting this fundraiser believing this will give us the ability to seek the best treatment for our children to be able to have their best hope at full-recovery and future health. If you have the ability to stand with them during this time, we would greatly appreciate it! God bless you!
