Wayne Canty (6) passed tragically and unexpectedly on August 16th, 2022. Wayne's parents are accepting donations to help cover the unexpected hospital bills and upcoming funeral expenses.

THEIR STORY:

August 16, 2022, was supposed to be an ordinary day, but it was not. Wayne Canty was rushed to the emergency room after waking up sleepy and acting unusual. He spent the day getting assessed but ultimately passed that evening due to an arteriovenous malformation (AVM).

The doctors discovered an abnormal tangle of blood vessels connecting his arteries and veins that had ruptured in his brain sometime during the night while he slept. There were no signs or symptoms to detect or prevent this condition, no head trauma or injuries that caused it. The doctors said it was just a matter of "when" and Wayne's "when" was on Tuesday, Aug. 16, 2022, at the age of 6. However, this tragedy could have happened at any age.

Wayne would have been celebrating his 7th birthday on 9/11/22.

Unfortunately for us all, we did not get enough time with this sweet, innocent boy. Multiple doctors and neurosurgeons from OHSU Doernbecher Children's Hospital tried all they could to save him. Still, ultimately they informed his parents that Wayne's medical condition was “unsurvivable,” “a 0% chance of him making it.”

While we are shocked and unable to accept the reality of this tragic event, it is comforting to know that Wayne went peacefully, comfortably, and did not suffer.

Wayne will be remembered as a healthy little boy throughout his life. He loved to play, hike, and run. He adored his younger sister and was kind to everyone. He was and always will be a shining light to all that knew and loved him. He is loved by all those who came to meet and know him.

Wayne's single-income family is unprepared for the sudden medical bills and funeral service expenses. As such, any donation amount is greatly appreciated. Should the family receive extra after their costs are covered, they would love to donate back to the children's hospital.
