Operation Restore Hope-The Rude Awakening Tour

We are the sisters of Sgt Michael Rude, CD Ret'd.
Mike has suffered with PTSD symptoms, as well as other ailments for several years with minimal results with treatment and in April 2019, he knew he needed to get answers before his condition would lead him to take his own life. His suicidal ideations had become forefront, and several of his military family had fallen by their own hands.
Mike had heard about the Mefloquine controversy, the anti-malarial drug Canadian soldiers were ordered to take before and during combat deployment. Soldiers were to be part of a drug trial, only they did not know they were part of this experiment. This drug trial was never done properly, no proper precautions, no data gathering, no investigations into whether the drug was even suitable for soldiers on an individual basis. This drug was untested and has serious and life threatening side effects which cause permanent damage. ... the side effects are many; memory loss, anxiety, night terrors, suicide, depression, hallucinations, paranoia and many, many more. Most Mike has. There was no choice in taking this drug. They were ordered to do so and did.
Mike attended a Town Hall Meeting on Mefloquine that spring and the missing pieces to his medical puzzle fell into place. Mike recognized he had Mefloquine Toxicity and thus The Rude Awakening Tour began. The journey towards improving his own physical and mental health, as well as making sure that no veteran felt alone as he had, was important. Mefloquine awareness for himself and his fellow veterans was and is his driving force.
He has travelled from Coast to Coast to Coast of Canada, with the exception of Nunavut. With only a few exceptions, he has driven this on his own, thankfully with Spark, his service dog. I know she has saved his life on more than one occasion. As many of you know through following his page, this has not been an easy task for our brother. The last year and a half he has let others see moments in his journey, many of which have been deeply personal. The physical, emotional and financial demands have been extreme.
Mike is ready to push forward again. His mission is important to every single soldier who has taken Mefloquine, as well as their families. He is fighting this fight alongside many other veterans; helping save lives and educating others on the life altering affects of Mefloquine, making sure no vet is left behind. He is determined to reach as many people as he possibly can.
We know times are tough right now in our country. Believe us; it has been extremely difficult convincing him to let us go ahead with this Go Fund Me. Mike is a proud man, one who loves his family, his country, his army family. He has dropped everything in his life to help those struggling as he does. He has taken this on as a personal responsibility. This is why we are asking for help. He has spent his entire life savings and then some. He is a very generous person who has given so much of himself, in every way.

Thank you to each and every one of you who have kept Mike in your thoughts and prayers as he walks the talk.
