One morning, on September 22, 2020, 2 men dressed as utility workers knocked on the door of an unsuspecting home in a quiet neighborhood in Waukegan, IL.  Inside the home were 2 adult residents and a 1-year old baby that they were babysitting.  Upon hearing the knock and seeing what she thought were utility workers, the female resident opened the door.  When doing so, one of the men pointed their gun at the female resident and her 1-year old niece and both men forced their way inside the home.  The female resident turned her back on the intruders, shielding the baby from any potential harm and screamed for help. 

From another room, the male resident heard the screams, quickly grabbed his firearm and ran to see what was happening.  When he approached the living room, he saw the 2 men inside the home with their weapon drawn at the female resident and baby; they then turned their firearm toward him and gunshots were exchanged.  Wounded, one of the armed men dragged the 2nd man out of the home while continuing to shoot toward the residents.  They continued to exchange gunshots and the 2 men that forced their way into the home, were killed.

The 2 residents are heroes.  They did what was necessary to protect the baby.  The 2 armed men were gang members and sadly, since the home invasion, the male resident has continuously received death threats.  He had to quit his job and is unsure how he will be able to live a normal, quiet life while receiving so many threats.  The female resident has also lost her babysitting job and is experiencing severe mental anguish.
