Hi Everyone,

Our names are Alicia and Ellie. We started this Go Fund Me to help our childhood babysitter and now friend, Margarita, who tragically lost her home in a fire that completely destroyed everything she had on the morning of February 2nd 2023. She lost all her belongings and even her pet bird. Unfortunately, Margarita did not have homeowners insurance.

Margarita is turning 89 this month. She is currently in the hospital where she is being treated for 1st, 2nd, 3rd degree burns and smoke inhalation. Doctors shared that she will remain in the hospital for at least 2 months, but is expected to recover.

To everyone reading this, we ask that you consider offering financial support of any amount to help Margarita get back on her feet once discharged from the hospital. Any amount, no matter how small, will make a difference in Margarita's life. In addition to medical expenses, she’ll need help to replace everything: clothes, medical equipment, medications she needs daily and hopefully replace her mobile home too. We want to make sure she has a safe, comfortable place to call home again.

Margarita was inside her house when an off-duty officer Armando Sanchez and a neighbor, Miguel Hernandez, noticed black smoke coming out of the windows, they knocked the door down and carried her out to safety. These two good samaritans saved her life and those of us closest to her are so grateful.

Margarita lost her son to COVID in 2020 and has no family in California. She’s always been independent and lived alone in a mobile home community on Blanca Lane for several decades. Our parents and neighbors help care for her, spend time with her, take her to all her doctors appointments and make sure she’s had her breakfast, lunch and dinner.
